Project 365

June 22, 2009

It's kind of amusing to watch the kids play in the backyard. One of them will be totally in to something and look up and realize the other is doing something different. At that point they decide to follow and so they quite often end up doing the same thing.

We were invited to a water play date today and Liza had a blast on all the cool water toys.

Jason still isn't too sure about this thing called swimming.

June 25, 2009

I bought Jason a pair of sandals. This is the first time I put them on his feet. He cried at me and screamed... just like when I first got him shoes. He got over it though.

Mike didn't work today and we got to go out on a date. I love getting time with just Michael!

June 27, 2009

Mike didn't work again today and it was beautiful outside... so we had a family date at the lake and Liza was my fearless little swimmer!

Liza loooves to read. I have her play in her room by herself after breakfast and most days I find her sitting quietly reading a book. Too cute!

This is a really great granola recipe. It's good just plain for a small snack. It's super yummy with vanilla yogurt and fresh strawberries or blueberries. And lately I have been having it for breakfast with some milk and honey.

3 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup shredded, unpeeled apple
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla

In a large bowl combine oats, apple and wheat germ; mix well.

In a small saucepan stir together honey, water and cinnamon. Heat to boiling, remove. Stir in vanilla. Pour over oat mixture and mix well.

Spray baking pan with nonstick spray. Spread oat mixture evenly in pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown, stirring occasionally. Spread on to foil to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator up to 2 weeks.

I haven't had all the ingredients lately and I am too lazy sometimes to mess with the apple... so I have just been making it with the oats, honey, cinnamon, vanilla and water. The last time I made it I added some crushed pecans and that turned out yummy. Just experiment with adding different things. And even though the directions say bake for 45 minutes it's only been taking about 30 minutes for mine to finish. Be careful not to burn it! It doesn't taste so good when you do. (Yes. I know from experience.)

We got invited to a cookout Sunday evening and we had such a great time! I've been meeting some new friends and then they bring some of their other friends around and I keep getting to meet new people!

The food was good. The company was great. And the kids all had a blast running around the HUGE yard.

I bought a plastic picnic table last summer and it is so convenient because it folds up flat. So when we go to things like picnics and cookouts we sometimes just throw it in the van. It almost guarantees that the kids will sit still and eat. And when they aren't eating they like to stand on it and jump off while saying "stick it!" (Stick it is something that they taught Liza to do in gymnastics when she jumps off the balance beam... she taught Jason.)

Liza saw a little bunny.

I wish that Liza would learn to sit still and look at me for just two seconds so I could get a cute photo of her. I often come home from things like this with great pictures of every one else's kids but I can't seem to get one of either of mine. (I don't post the pics of other kids because I haven't asked the parents if they mind. I should get around to asking because I have some super cute photos!)

Yay for friends and good times!

Park Time

Once the kids got too cold swimming we got them dressed and let them play at the park by the lake for a little while. Going to the park is another thing I don't do unless I have some help so the kids enjoy it every time we get to go.

Michael always makes the swings really fun for the kids. They laugh tons and want more.

After a good time on the swings they just wandered around the rest of the playground checking everything out and discovering new swings. Liza found a little seat to play on and told me she was making me cheeseburgers. I think it is awesome that her pretend plays always involves food and sleep haha. AWESOME!

Jason loved getting to climb the steps all by himself and then going down the twisty slide. He's such a big boy!

I love spending time with my family! It never gets old!!

Family date at Moraine Lake

We made Saturday family day and spent the evening at Moraine State Park swimming and picnicking. I used to go to the lake to swim at least a few times each summer but it has become a lot harder to get there since having kids. I can't go unless someone helps me and Mike is usually only home on rainy days. Just hasn't worked out much. BUT... since Mike had off and it was sunny we decided to get to it and make it happen.

Jason was hesitant at first... as usual. However after a few splashes and some time to get used to his floaty he did awesome. He also enjoyed just walking in the water.

Liza was super brave. She took her tube... she didn't even really know what it did since it was her first time using it.... but she just put it on and walked in to the water and then just kept going and going and going until she could no longer reach. At first she was a little nervous and wanted to hold my had but by the end she was doing it all by herself and spinning in circles and having a blast.

After swimming for a while, when we all started to shiver a little, we got out and played in the sand. The sand wasn't very nice but the kids enjoyed using their shovels and buckets.

We did a little bit more swimming to get the sand off and then had a little picnic. Liza loooves picnics. Wants to have one all the time. And it amazes me how my kids just sit on the blanket and eat until their food is gone.

Me and Liza were checking out some sailboats that were near. She liked how the sails looked like a rainbow.

We didn't do much more swimming because the kids started shivering almost immediately. So we just enjoyed sitting at the edge of the water making some splashes for a while.

I love my family SOO MUCH! I had a really great time just playing with them all and I hope to be able to have a lot more times at the lake this summer.

Date Night!

On Friday night Mike's wonderful mom and dad watched the kids for us so that we could go out out for a few hours. We ate dinner at Texas Roadhouse and had some really good food. Stuffed. Since it is in the mall we had to stop in a few shops just because there were good sales going on.

After dinner and the mall we headed to the park and set up Ladder Ball. We used to get to play this game all the time but it's kind of not a good idea to be chucking golf balls with little kids running around. (Not to mention that they insist on going to the swings and slides.)

I lost really bad. It was embarrassing. I told him that it was his fault I lost because he made me nervous by taking pictures of me the whole time. It was distracting. Gotta give it to him for good strategy.

We had a really nice night out. I enjoy the time I get with just Michael.

Three day weekend... WHAT!??

I don't think this has EVER happened before in the summer. Mike works Monday-Saturday. The only days I have him at home are Sundays and rainy days. But this weekend he didn't work Friday or Saturday and both days were really nice out!

I have so enjoyed having him home for a few days in a row. And with the weather being nice we were able to get outside and have some fun. I also took advantage of having him at home to play with the kids and was able to get some good cleaning done.

It's been a great weekend.

Friday night we had a date night. Saturday we had a family date and went swimming at the lake. And tonight we are going to a friends house for a picnic.

I'm feeling a little spoiled and thinking I should get Mike at home every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the summer. :)

Good things happen when I am gone.

Mike always tells me about things the kids do while I am out and often I have a hard time believing it. But I doubt he would make things up and lie to me.

Last night I was out for my scrapping night and Mike was home with the kids. He told me that Liza came up to him and said she had to go pee and wanted to use the potty because she wanted to get a sticker. Kept her diaper dry all night.

Where did this kid come from!!??? And why doesn't she ever do things like that for ME!??

I'm tellin ya.... if I didn't have a day trip to take on Wednesday we would be potty training and being done with it.

Swimming in our little plastic pool

I finally got around to cleaning up our little plastic pool and getting it out for the kids. I figure it would be too difficult for me to take them by myself to a pool or the lake so we will be spending lots of time swimming in our backyard this summer.

We swam after lunch and Jason was real hesitant. Actually if I let him go he cried. If I sat him down he cried. If I splashed him too much he cried. Funny though that when Liza dumped a bucket of water on his head he didn't seem to care. I think maybe he was just too shocked!

We swam again after dinner and we called over our friends that live across the road to join us. Ava is Liza's best bud and it's super convenient that they are only a two second walk away.

The girls found it amusing to dump water on their heads. Jason was a little freaked out and just stood at the edge of the pool for a long time. At least he didn't cry if I wasn't in there this time. Progress!

Jason still wasn't sure.

But eventually he started to get a little bit braver and tried out some splashing until he FINALLY kind of sat down and actually got himself wet.

Hopefully next time we go out Jason is able to remember that the water isn't so bad and he can actually have some fun in it.
