I was having a hard time coming up with stuff to do for the letter E. The website I am using suggests that you just teach the short vowel sound first and then when you get through the alphabet go back and teach the long vowel sound. So that took away a ton of things you can do with the letter E.
In the end we came up with E is for...
We went to the Pittsburgh Zoo on Friday.
In the elephant house they have a small display and on it there is a piece of elephant skin that you can feel.
There is also a bottom part of an elephants jaw with teeth. The kids thought it was quite neat.
We also made our own elephants at home. :)
We colored pictures of envelopes and then put them in envelopes to mail out.
Some books we enjoyed this week were...
Elmer by David McKee
Ella the Elegant Elephant by Carmelo D'Amico
The Elves and the Shoemaker (fairy tale)
The Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper
I think that E was the toughest letter so far... creative-wise. I'm looking forward to moving on to F because I have a ton of ideas for it. And G will be lots of fun and excitement as well with some big "field trips" planned in.
