In case you needed a reason to smile today...

Liza's first day of school... was a couple weeks ago.

A few Wednesdays ago Liza had her first day of school. (Yeah. I'm behind.) The day I was deathly ill was her meet and greet day. Thankfully I have a wonderful Mother-in-law who saved the day and took Liza for that. Then on her first day of school I almost forgot to get some pictures.

I took a few in our driveway on the way to the car. And I showed up just a little bit late. Oops. Not late for the start of school but I had to volunteer that week and I was a few minutes late for that. It's my one time being late this year. Don't shoot me!

Anyways... my girl being all grown up on her first day of school... which isn't really school but a little program that we call school.

Pictures from Liza's camera

I love that Liza loves her camera and wants to take pictures of anything and everything. Here are just a few from her camera. I know they are a bit fuzzy but well... that's what happens with a cheap camera and no flash.

We were outside using her new bubble blower and she wanted pics of the bubbles...

Her lovely Minnie Mouse...

A really dorky picture of me... I figure I owe it to her for all the dorky ones I have posted and will post of her. :)
Her pumpkin...
A nice picture of me and Jason...

And of course she told us to do a silly face...

Liza is a rockin' photographer for a four year old!

Love and War Winner!

I put the numbers in at and it spit out number 3. I have no idea how to save that picture like other people do so you will just have to trust me.

And number 3 was KRYSTAL!!! I am sooo excited that Krystal won this giveaway. She is getting married in a few short weeks and seems so eager to learn as much as she can. She is going to make marriage work! I truly believe it! She writes at Well, this is growing up... and if you like honesty and wedding stuff you should definitely check her out!

For those of you that wanted to win and didn't... you can get the book from It's worth the money. It gave me a fresh perspective on marriage and I love the honesty of the authors. It's not easy to open your heart and share it with the world but they did just that. And in doing so they gave me wisdom and strength. Get the book! Read it! You won't be sorry you spent money on it! (Of course those of you who live near me can borrow it. Just let me know you want to.)

Congratulations Krystal! Send me an email with your address and I will get it in the mail a copy of Love and War to you soon.

Computer resurrected from the dead!

Months ago my computer crashed. Died. Wouldn't even start. I could turn it on but it just went to this "thinking" page and never went any further. We tried starting it different ways. I called my computer genius brother and tried everything he said to try. I almost threw the computer out the window.

Nothing worked.

Dead computer.

I bought a new computer and was hoping to find someone who would help me to recover my pictures off the dead one. I didn't want to pay a ton and was hoping that maybe someone would want to trade their services for a photo shoot or something.

No one did.

I have had a dead computer just sitting here waiting, and waiting, and waiting.

Mike's cousin had some program that he burned to a cd and told us to start the computer up with that and see what happened. It worked... kind of. I could see my pictures but it was a weird program and I couldn't figure out how to do anything about anything.

I was stuck again. And I REALLY wanted my pictures!! They were of Christmas and Jason's 2nd birthday. Not just your every day stuff. :(

Mike took the computer to work one day recently so his cousin could mess around and see if he could use the program he gave us and get our pictures to our external hard drive. Problem was that Mike took the wrong cord for the hard drive so they couldn't do it. His cousin decided to just start the computer up normal because he wanted to see what it was doing and oh my gosh!!!

My computer has come back from the dead!!!

Just like that. Fixed itself. It's a miracle! It's working.

Mike is currently moving my pictures to our hard drive just in case it decides to die again. After that we are going to strip it down and take everything off of it. After that it can be Mike's computer... because I get the nice one.

But I am sooo happy to be getting those photos!! And I didn't even have to pay someone!!

Glad I just left it laying on my bedroom floor for half a year. Who knew that would fix it!?! Maybe it was all the dust.

The work is done. I have my pictures! And my recipes! And my music! Hallelujah!!!! You  have NO IDEA how happy this makes me!!

Becoming a Woman of Simplicity

Cynthia Heald is a wise woman. I am learning so much from her study Becoming a Woman of Simplicity and finding great encouragement.

In the last chapter I did Heald teaches about salvation and how it can not be earned. It is free and God's love is unconditional.

There is nothing I can do to make God love me more. There is nothing I can do to make God love me less.

When I take Heald's advice and simplify my life, I get rid of everything that hinders me from concentrating on God and doing what He asks of me. Heald says, "Knowing that I am not required to meet all the needs that I hear about has been a blessed and guiding truth." Being able to say no is a good thing. Being able to discern which needs God would have us fill and which ones are to be left for someone else will keep us from becoming exhausted, bitter and burned out.

She goes on to say:

If God does call me to minister in a certain area, then his grace will be sufficient and my strength will be renewed, I must always be alert, though, for I can easily fall back into choosing to serve in order to meet a need in my own life or because I want to please people. If any service begins to replace my spending time with God or if I become overly burdened and burned out, then I need to reevaluate my ministry.

That is definitely something to think about. WHY do I serve?

Oswald Chambers warns, "Beware of any work for God that causes or allows you to avoid concentrating on Him."

Serving in the right place and in the right way will not leave you burdened and burned out. It will renew your strength and draw you closer to God.

Girl Talk Hop: Two Questions

Just a reminder that my giveaway ends tomorrow. Get entered if you haven't already!

We are hosting another blog hop over at Girl Talk today. If you haven't checked out Girl Talk lately you should!

Today's hop is two questions:
1. If you were to identify the most important quality in a friend, what would you say it is?
2. If you could have a single button beside your bed that did one thing, what would you want it to do?

1. I think the most important quality in a friend is honesty. It doesn't matter if they are kind if they are not honest. It doesn't matter if they are loyal if they are not honest. A relationship can't survive without honesty.

I know that a lot of friendships that are no more could have been saved with honesty. People get hurt and offended and if they would just say "what you did/said hurt me" we could deal with it and move on. Most times we don't even realize we hurt the other person. Honesty also covers saying yes when you want to and no when you want to. Honesty means sharing your life... the good and bad.

Honesty is a must.

Ok. On to lighter things.

2. If I had a button beside my bed that would do any one thing... I could think of a lot of "one things" that I would want it to do.

Summon Mary Poppins. That would cover a lot of things!
Or maybe it could make my kids be quiet.
Or make them sleep till ten in the morning once in a while and not mess up their nap or bedtime.

Or perhaps it would be a button that I used at night and it would cause the entire house to instantly enter a deep, restful sleep that left us feeling super refreshed when we woke up no matter how little sleep we got.

Eh... I think I'll stick with summoning Mary Poppins. All she has to do is sing and the house cleans itself. I could use some of that!

Head on over to Girl Talk to link up and join in. Would love to read your answers to the questions!

Excited Face

We have this silly little thing we like to do in this house.

It all started with me. If something exciting was happening I would express it in my face. Soon I started noticing Liza was making the same face after telling me something exciting. And then Jason picked up on it as well.

It's now known as the excited face and the kids will typically do it on command.

It's fun.

It's funny.

And it makes for interesting pictures.

You would think they were on an exciting ride or something. But nope... they were just on the slide that was all of a sudden fixed and I said "Make your excited faces!"

It's my Birthday!

I was born 31 years ago.

And I have to say this has been a memorable birthday!

It started out with a girl's night on Friday. My lovely friend Rainey decided to host a little partay for me. :) I felt special. I felt like a kid again getting to have a birthday party. People were coming to celebrate with ME! I loved it.

As they showed up they gave me gifts... which was totally unexpected but I wasn't about to refuse a gift!

Kim B. gave me flowers and I love them! They smell so good!

And see this...

That's gold right there people! I spend money at Panera Bread and my friends know me well. A Panera Bread gift card is a guaranteed good gift!

Rainey had a very nice set up for dinner.

And the food was really great! Chicken, cheesy potato casserole, veggies, snacks. And Rainey even made a sugar free dessert for me that was yummy!

We had planned to go bowling after eating but a lot of people weren't up for it. When I realized more people would stick around if we just hung out at Rainey's we decided to stay there... and Wii bowl... on the Wii that I had sold to Rainey. :)

I won. :) They say they let me because it was my birthday but that was just to make themselves feel better about losing. But really... I had an absolute blast last night. I haven't laughed so much in a long time and it felt great. We were just being free to be ourselves and that is the best gift a friend can give!

(Some people left before we got the camera out but I am sure after seeing these they will be glad that they left!)

Left to right: Beth, Kim V., MEEE (dork!), Kim B. and Rainey

(I look like I'm ready to kill someone in that last one hahaha.)
Today is my actual birthday. Mike had to work and when I woke up I decided I wanted to go to Panera Bread for breakfast. It IS my birthday. And it's fun to take the kids there. They are good and they love the bagels with cream cheese too.
Most of the day has been spent relaxing but we did go outside for a bit and we walked to the mailbox... where there was another surprise for me!! Yay! My best friend Melissa sent me some lovely jewelry!

And the best part is that the jewelry goes GREAT with the outfit I had planned to wear out tonight. Where am I going? My church has a woman's event tonight called Daughters of the King. It's a dinner and then there is a speaker... Debbie Morris. All I know is she was kidnapped when she was 16.. Should be good message!... because when you go through something like that and turn to God and let him use it it is going to be good. And I will be dining with some lovely ladies. I'm looking forward to it!

Tomorrow we have a babysitter so that Mike and I can go out! He also told me I could get myself a full body massage!!

Woo hoo!

I like turning 31!

The other day something happened that made this mommy heart soooo incredibly happy.

Liza said to me "let's walk down the road to take pictures of the flowers!"

How could I say no!? She had seen me do it many times while they were playing at the bottom of the road so that is where she wanted to take her camera too.

Liza grabbed her camera. Jason grabbed his camera. And I grabbed mine. Then we headed out to find the flowers.

Jason followed Liza around taking pictures of anything she stopped to take a picture of. It was the cutest thing ever!

Here are some photos that came off of Liza's camera...

She has taken hundreds of pictures. I'll have another post with more of them soon. They aren't anything spectacular but she surprises me being that she is only four.

Even if her love of her camera fades tomorrow I have had fun with it. I have enjoyed it. Photography is my main hobby and a growing passion. It would be awesome if at least one of my kids decided they liked it as well. But if they don't I can't force it on them.

But for now... I love watching Liza do things I do with her camera. Like standing on a chair to take a picture of something on the floor. Or bringing her pumpkin out of her room and putting it on her chair so she can take some pictures.

Warm fuzzies.

It's all warm fuzzies inside.

The fine print.

We are Steelers fans. More so, we are Troy Polamalu fans. He is definitely someone I wouldn’t mind my kids looking up to as a roll model.

A lot of you probably have seen the head and shoulders ads with Polamalu in them. They are silly. Humorous. They make me laugh.

Haven’t seen it?

Head and shoulders is promising thicker looking hair in a week.

Sounds good.

Well the other day we got our ads in the mailbox and I saw this one for head and shoulders.

Looks good. Sounds good.

Until you read the fine print.

See that little * after “IN 1 WEEK”?

Oh you can’t see it? Yeah. It is pretty small. Well I will tell you that it is there and when you find the corresponding * with the info it reads “*versus unwashed hair”.

If you use head and shoulders your hair will look better than [dun dun daaaa] your unwashed hair!

Oh my gosh!!! It's even guaranteed!!! I MUST go get me some head and shoulders!!

The Grandkids

When we were visiting with my parents and my brother was up with his daughter the kids were playing together real nice. They were cute.

I thought it would be nice to have a picture with the three of them together. They were having fun with Papa so we went for a picture with him.

You ready kids?

Everyone look this way now!

Good job Dad. Now if we could get the kids to look too...

 Or not.

Ok. We're done. Nice try.

Later on the kids were playing on the bottom steps and they were looking pretty cute so I decided to give it another go.

Here's what came of that attempt...

I guess it just wasn't meant to be this time.

Jason enjoyed the cake.

I love to watch this kid eat!

It's like a special event.

It's entertainment.

It's awesome!
