Who should reconcile?

In the Bible, the person who has been offended is told to forgive. But what about the person who has done the offending? What are they to do? According to God’s Word they are to seek reconciliation.

Matthew 5:23-24
"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.”

If you’ve offended someone, wronged them, hurt them (intentionally or not) you are to go to that person. Seek reconciliation. Offer a sincere apology and do what you can to make things right.

Does this mean that if you are the one who has been offended that you can’t take steps toward reconciliation? Absolutely not. Anyone can work toward reconciliation.

But if you have wronged someone the responsibility definitely falls on you so don’t wait around for the other person to start. Seek reconciliation. Do your part.
