and Liza got purple and pink steaks in her hair.

And a big highlight for the kids was going to a carnival with my parents and riding their first roller coaster!

First Day of School

Today was the big day... first day of first grade for Liza and first day of Kindergarten for Jason. Oh man were they cute!

Last night while getting ready for bed Liza exclaimed "I'm so excited! I can't wait!! It's like there is a party in my BRAIN!"

And Jason... he just got dreamy eyes when we talked about Kindergarten because he was going to be in Miss Eshbaugh's class. Yeah... he's totally got a little crush on her. :)

I always ask the kids what they want for breakfast on their first day of school. I would make them anything... pancakes, waffles, whatever! I don't think they really know that though because we hardly ever have that stuff for breakfast. Last year Liza chose frosted mini wheats and the kids decided that that was what they wanted again this year. Easy enough for me!

We made sure to get ready quick so we would have enough time for photos before walking over to school. Liza and Jason were so excited about their new backpacks and shoes. It's the little things. :)

Waah!!! Seriously! Can someone make her stop growing up!!????

I love that Liza insisted on pigtails today. It keeps her looking a little younger... and super cute!

And then there is Jason. My little heart melter. He's already wanting to walk to school by himself. I told him NO... Mama needs that walk with her babies. They are not allowed to be big enough to walk to school by themselves yet! Says ME!

Ack... these pictures are killing me!

I really missed the kids today! I usually love having a bit of time to myself in a quiet house but all those times before I had the house to myself while the kids were out with Mike or grandparents or someone just having some fun. But to know that they are 100 yards away at the school... the quiet was too strange. I had to put on some music. It just didn't feel right and will take some time to get used to.

Jason only has half day kindergarten and I was so happy to have him back home for lunch but about halfway through the afternoon while we were sitting on the couch watching a movie he said "I miss Liza." I did too. It was just such a long time without her.

There will definitely be an adjustment period for all of us but we'll get there. :)

Liza and Jason both had a great first day of school and are looking forward to going back tomorrow!

Summertime Day Trip

Mike and I had such a great time when we went to Pymatuning State Park by ourselves that we decided we needed to go back with the kids.

It was a rainy day but it held off at all the right times and the day was a great hit!

We started at the Spillway feeding the fish. :)

(They took a break from feeding the fish to eat some "fish food".)

Then we found a spot with thick trees that kept the rain off of us while we picnicked. So fun to picnic in the rain!

Next we went to Deer Park. It's just like our petting zoo here but with a few different animals. Like this WHITE turkey! Have you ever seen one!!?!? Crazy and beautiful!

What do you call a mixed zebra and donkey???

We stopped at the train museum just as they were closing up for the day. They run on volunteers and didn't have anyone for that day. The guy who had come to check on things was kind enough to open up one of the cars and the engine so the kids could check them out real quick.

We ended the day back at Pymatuning because they had a festival going on and we just weren't ready to head back home yet.

I'm so glad that Liza and Jason can handle a car ride and a full day out! We have so much fun taking these trips and I'm constantly trying to come up with new places to go.

Spending time together.
Building memories.
That's what summer is all about!
And Mike having Saturdays off now makes it possible!!

Hooray for our best summer yet!

Mixed Emotions

This Wednesday... tomorrow = first day of school.

Liza is going to first grade and Jason to kindergarten.

I've had a lot of people asking me if I'm excited for the kids to be going to school and honestly... not really. I won't lie... I'll enjoy those 2 1/5 hours by myself every morning. I'm good at alone time. And I get excited when I think that maybe I could actually have a clean house for longer than ten minutes at a time.

But... I'm going to miss my kids! I love them so much and they are such a joy to have. I love talking to them and hearing what is running through their minds. They crack me up all the time... even when they are fighting. Yes... we have our blow up moments where we all lose it... but the good times faaaar outweigh the bad.

Liza and Jason are truly the little joys of my life.

It's going to be quiet around here without their giggles and singing... and fighting.
There isn't going to be anyone to randomly come to me for a hug and a snug.
This house will seem so lifeless without their little imaginations bringing it to life.

I can't believe that someone else will have my Liza for six hours a day five days a week!
Kind of makes me want to cry a little.
Someone else gets to have my Liza and Jason stories.
I want their stories.
But I guess I need to learn to share them at some point.
And I certainly don't want to homeschool.

Guess I'll have to settle for still being able to pick Jason up at lunchtime and being able to spy on Liza at recess... perks of living across the road from the school!

Anyone else not looking forward to sending their kids off to school???
