Jason Turns Eight

EIGHT!?!?!

How did it happen? Time is flying.

Saturday was Jason's birthday.
Friday night he had a few friends over to help him celebrate. Legos, pizza, and a movie. We also ended up having a bit of a dance party/competition with awkward attempts at break dancing and doing one better than the others.

On Saturday we went to a huge book giveaway and loaded up on free books. After that we went to our towns first ever ice festival. The afternoon was spent rollerblading at the park.

Jason is such a fun kid. I said to him, "Eight!?!? I can't believe you're eight!!!" He calmly responded, "I wish I was ten." I yelled, "Don't EVER say that again!!" :)

Jason likes to remind me that he is a man, not a boy, and he is obsessed with his muscles and anything athletic. He's competitive and driven. He's also sweet, thoughtful, and the cutest boy I know.

I love him.

52 Photos

There are different projects that photographers do each year. There is photo a day which is exactly that... you take a photo each day of the year. There are monthly challenges that give lists of things to take photos of. Then there is 52 photos... one photo each week. Sometimes there are prompts to follow, but I decided to do my own.

52 photos... one photo each week... of Liza and Jason together.
The goal is to showcase their relationship and at the end of the year I will have 52 photos of their siblingship and I'll put them in a photo book.

Here are my first eight weeks. Some weeks have more than one photo because I just can't help myself and it's hard to narrow down to one. I love seeing Liza and Jason together and I hope their relationship continues to be strong forever!

Week 1
A quick snapshot at the school skate party, wearing their new rollerblades that they got from Grandma Ann and Papa Mike for Christmas.

01

Week 2
We got some snow and since they were ready for school early, they went outside to shovel the sidewalks.

02

Week 3
Liza and Jason built a fort and spent their time in it reading and playing games.

03a

03b

Week 4
Pokemon cards are REALLY popular at school. Everyone trades them and Liza and Jason have built up their own collections. This week they went to the store and used their own money to buy binders and pages to hold their cards. They spent a good amount of time organizing their cards and decorating their binders.

04

Week 5
We had some ridiculously nice weather for January, so we headed to McConnell's Mill for a hike. We stopped along the creek to throw rocks for a while. 2 miles of hiking on an icy trail. We had a good time!

05a

05b

Week 6
When Liza and Jason wake up in the morning they usually find each other and just hang out for a while. On this particular morning they turned on their music and were dancing and singing on the bed.

06a

06b

Week 7
It was family movie night and we decided to watch Pirates of the Caribbean. Jason had already seen it, but it was Liza's first time and she wasn't sure if she would like it or not. This is how Liza and Jason watched the movie... snuggled up on the couch. Also, she loved the movie.

Also during week 7, we had enough snow to play in and do some sledding. Fun times!

Week 8
The weather was beautiful and the kids wanted to play outside. They went to the park to rollerblade.

52 Lists: Favorite Albums

List #8

This list makes me have to think! I'm random with music. I love having music on and prefer the randomness of Pandora. I buy the songs I like but I don't often buy an album. And as I think back to my past... well, if it's not something I currently listen to, I kind of forget about it. But I'll give it a go and we'll see what comes up. Don't laugh at my me though. :)

Favorite Albums
Mat Kearney - Just Kids and Young Love and Bullet
Jack Johnson - Sleep Through the Static
One Direction - Four
Taylor Swift - 1989
Twenty One Pilots - Blurryface
Norah Jones - Feels Like Home
Hawk Nelson - Made
TobyMac - This Is Not A Test and Eye On It
Ron Pope - Whatever It Takes
Matchbox Twenty - North
Lacrae - Rehab
Mo' Mojo - We All Got The Same
Yes Ma'am - Stirring the Mud
Phillip Phillips - Home

Yep... if I put a cd in, it will be one of those... or a mix that I made from songs I bought after hearing them on Pandora.

How about you? What are you listening to?

Winter is Beautiful!

Summer turns to fall and fall turns to winter... and the complaints start. So few people seem to enjoy winter. I know it gets cold... sometimes ridiculously so. And I know that there is a freedom that comes with warmer weather to get outside and DO things. I love summer... but I love winter too!

I love how the cold mornings wake me up when I take my kids to the bus stop. It's invigorating!

I also love
the beauty of a fresh snow
how the sun makes the snow sparkle
sledding
snow lined trees
seeing my breath
and snowflakes!

I love how the cold makes me want to sit under warm blankets and the heat that comes from my space heater that I carry around my house with me. I love the warmth that comes when my kids sit next to me. Summer can just get too hot to enjoy that.

And lastly, I enjoy that winter makes me appreciate spring and summer even more.

I love seasons.
All of them!

I'm enjoying the snow that we got this week. The ice and snow lined the trees and I think it's absolutely stunning! After sending the kids off to school on Wednesday, I grabbed my camera and headed to a park to take a walk. It was so peaceful and quiet and calming.

Winter is beautiful!

Snow Fun!

It's been a weird winter with temperatures at 45 and above for most of it. Very little snow. We've been waiting and waiting for enough snow to go sledding and the day finally came! Sunday was pretty cold, but we didn't mind. We went to my in-law's because they have a good hill, bundled up, and went sledding!

We got a little more snow last night, then a bunch of rain and woke up this morning to a slushy mess and school being closed. It is now snowing again on top of all the wet slush... but it's supposed to be 50 degrees by Saturday. I wish we would get a little more winter, but I might just have to wait until next year.

I live by the rule that if we have the snow to do it, I must go sledding at least once a winter. It's a good rule... Keeps me from getting too old and boring. :)

Jason is in there somewhere. He doesn't like to sit in the front because he doesn't like snow in his face.
